H e y t h e r e !

If you stumbled upon this livejournal, you're in luck! Now you get to read a ton of fangirly zany recaps and reviews! What I recap isn't really limited or structured. It can be anywhere from regular American t.v. to anime to Asian dramas to cartoons or even video games. If you have any particular requests in between series you can send them to me. But it should preferably be a short series, and keep in mind, I'll have to actually see if I like it first (I probably won't be able to recap it if I can't even stand watching it).

So relax and stay a while. Hopefully we'll all have fun here :)

the beautiful queen
Ah the early 90s. How much fun did I have drooling over The Legend of Zelda:Link to the Past on the brand new god of gaming technology and deacon for the future: The Super Nintendo. How many times did I listen to Ace of Base’s “I Saw the Sign” before it slowly began to warp my mind and make me have fantasies about torturing small puppies? Still, I think some of my best memories, above all else, would be those nights I spent parked in front of the television watching sappy family friendly sitcom after sappy family friendly sitcom. And really, what sitcom’s sappier than Full House?

Well okay maybe a few. But come on! It wasn’t enough to sand down all the rough edges – they had to paint smiley faces on them afterwards! When the show was created in 1987, most people despised its wholesome, unoriginal image and practically burned it to a crisp in their torrent of terrible reviews. Even so, eventually the show, in all its cheesy glory, began to captivate the hearts of children, mothers and old people across the…I’m gonna say globe. Since I was one of its major fans and hadn’t seen an episode in years, I thought it be fun to find a few episodes and watch.

Okay so today’s episode: The House Meets the Mouse Part I, one of ABC’s many "Sitcom Family Goes to Disney World and No This Not One Big Advertisement for Disney Even Though Disney Owns ABC Watch Aladdin" storylines.

Um ya. Here we go.

Note: I’ve just recently learned that transcribing commentary’s pretty hard to do, especially when it’s in Japanese. Often, even though the official subtitles might say a few things, the commentators say things in the background that aren’t transcribed. Then, a lot of the time they’re talking over one another so it’s hard to tell who’s saying what (well really I often mistake Rie and Meg during those moments, especially when Rie’s voice goes lower than usual or Meg’s goes higher, etc. Paku and Mizushima’s voices are pretty distinct though so I don’t have a problem with them). In any case, I may make a couple of minor mistakes with who’s speaking (again when it comes to either Rie or Meg) but it’s not big deal.

Also, this is really long, so I’ll have to release it in parts. I'm sure you don't mind. Plus it's easier on the eyes.

Well, without further ado, let’s get on with it shall we? BTW please excuse my fangirly comments, I can’t really help myself :P

Before I start maybe I should familiarize the unenlightened with the entire premise of the show. As stated by the gospel of wikipedia, Jem and the Holograms is a kick ass 80's cartoon which was created for the sole purpose of selling toys, like all most other cartoons of that era and let's face it, of all time.

So there’s this girl Jerrica who runs an orphanage. She’s got these earings that allows her to turn into rockstar (and possibly superhero?) Jem, who leads a band called Jem and the Holograms which is under a label owned by Jerrica and her peeps, Starlight Records. With me so far? Well that’s it really. The entire show is about Jem’s fabulous life as a rockstar, her bffs and bratty kid sister, and her ridiculously slow-witted boyfriend, who’s in love with both Jem and Jerrica without being able to figure out that they’re actually the same person. And Jerrica’s totally fine with this. It’s an 80’s soap opera with tons of glamour, glitter, fashion and - well, you know the rest.

So, on to the episode!

One Jem Too Many )

Actually, despite my snark, I really did love this episode and I adore this show! 80’s Cartoons sure were cracktastic. ;)

Next time: Jem and the Holograms travel!

…through time?

Outrageous!
